NIWE.ORG - Let me be me

The Cheetah generation makes reference to the present generation of Africans like elsewhere... who are ready for a change. NIWE, which means Let me be me in Swahili, is a socially conscious enterprise devoted to empowering African women through education and the opportunity to start their business.

NIWE history

Ivan Esmeral was simply accompanying his wife Bistra Galabova to Kilema, Tanzania as a volunteer in one of her medical caravans with C.A.C.H.A. (Canada-Africa Community Health Alliance). Little did he know what was awaiting him when he decided to unwind in Moshi, only 45 minutes away from Kilema. Moshi was in fact exactly what he had longed for. Esmeral, an International Business Manager was thinking about a serious life change; perhaps the search for a more meaningful life. Tanzania was the answer; he fell in love with it and its people. People are always smiling, and the word you hear the most is karibu . which means welcome Such friendly people immediately caught his attention, very generous with the little they own. People invite you over to drink something, open their doors, they are extremely engaging. And meaning he found, when he met Anamaria Kanondo, who told him about the school for girls she had founded just a year before. Unfortunately she also spoke about the terrible news that the funding that ensured the running of the school was no longer available. She was in fact looking for someone to help her carry on.
